The Asia Pacific region covers all of South east and Central Asia, the Indian Sub Continent, Australia and New Zealand.

CoMO has members in the Australia, New Zealand, Philippines and Taiwan as well as an individual Associate Member in India.

Australia   

The Meningitis Centre

Founded in 1992 by a group of concerned parents and health professionals, The Meningitis Centre is striving to eliminate Meningitis in Australia by lobbying for vaccines and educating the community to be aware of the signs and symptoms. The Centre also provides support for families affected by the disease.

The Centre seeks primarily to raise awareness of meningococcal and pneumococcal meningitis, but also provides information on other types of meningitis.

The Amanda Young Foundation

The Amanda Young Foundation was originally established as a charitable trust in 1998 in Western Australia to create public awareness of meningococcal disease and to fund research into the disease following the tragic death of Amanda Young from meningococcal scepticaemia when she was only 18 years of age. The original trust structure was subsequently vested and all activities are now conducted through a charitable company limited by guarantee. As a company we have a board od directors and our activities are subject to audit and the requirements of public companies as stipulated in the Corporations Act. The Foundation has endorsements from the Australia Taxation Office as a deductable Gift Recipient and a s a registered charity. The Foundation’s activities are not subject to income tax.

The Foundation’s objectives and initiatives are primarily directed at:

  • promoting community awareness of meningococcal disease
  • medical profession education and awareness of meningococcal disease
  • medical research into meningococcal disease
  • meningococcal disease survivor support
  • young leader development programs and initiatives

New Zealand   

The Meningitis Foundation was launched on World Meningitis Day Sunday 24 April 2011. The Foundation advocates for early detection and prevention of meningococcal meningitis as well as raising awareness of the disease. Based in New Zealand the Foundation represents everyone in New Zealand and Polynesia (South-west Pacific).

Philippines   

Philippines Foundation for Vaccination

Established in 2000 by a group of committed vaccine advocates, this non-profit organisation is composed of paediatric and adult infectious disease experts, local and national public health officials and celebrities. The organisation's main objective is to improve vaccine coverage among children and adolescents. The organisation also sets standards and guidelines for vaccinating children, adults and the elderly.

Meningo.org Foundation

The Meningo.Org Foundation is one of the projects of the Rotary Club of Pasay North District 3810 Philippines.  It was created in 2006 to increase awareness about the menigococcemia disease and to provide free immunization to those who cannot afford the vaccines.  The Rotary Club of Pasay North thru its Meningo.Org Foundation hopes to spearhead the fight against the meningococcemia disease and that someday the Rotary International would also adopt it as its flagship program much like its Polio Eradication Program which also started in the Philippines in the 70's.  To date, the Meningo.Org Foundation have vaccinated at least 7,000 individuals against the deadly meningoccemia disease.

Taiwan   

Pneumo_Mening Centre

The Pneumo-Mening Centre of Taiwan, initiating in 2006, is a nonprofit organization. The organization's mission is to prevent death and disability due to meningitis and other infectious diseases by promoting health education, as well as accelerating evaluation of and access to new vaccine for the children in Taiwan.

The Pneumo-Mening Centre also will:

  • Provide support and education to patients and their families affected by meningitis and other preventable infectious diseases.
  • Strive to increase public awareness of meningitis and other preventable infectious diseases.
  • Promote better understanding of the disease among healthcare profession.
  • Provide funds for research into improved diagnosis,treatment and prevention of meningitis and other preventable infectious diseases.
