The Meningitis Centre

Founded in 1992 by a group of concerned parents and health professionals, the Meningitis Centre is a parent led organisation that provides information and resources to further the vital public awareness issues relating to meningitis. The Centre seeks primarily to raise awareness of meningococcal and pneumococcal meningitis, but also provides information on other types of meningitis. It also offers support services to families who have experienced meningitis.

The Amanda Young Foundation

The Amanda Young Foundation was originally established as a charitable trust in 1998 in Western Australia to create public awareness of meningococcal disease and to fund research into the disease following the tragic death of Amanda Young from meningococcal scepticaemia when she was only 18 years of age. The original trust structure was subsequently vested and all activities are now conducted through a charitable company limited by guarantee. As a company we have a board od directors and our activities are subject to audit and the requirements of public companies as stipulated in the Corporations Act. The Foundation has endorsements from the Australia Taxation Office as a deductable Gift Recipient and a s a registered charity. The Foundation’s activities are not subject to income tax.

The Foundation’s objectives and initiatives are primarily directed at:

  • promoting community awareness of meningococcal disease
  • medical profession education and awareness of meningococcal disease
  • medical research into meningococcal disease
  • meningococcal disease survivor support
  • young leader development programs and initiatives
